Jake will identify the patient’s main issues and try to understand them, and then he will look for solutions that will satisfy the patient’s interests. He will state his position on what he thinks, and he will do so by telling the patient that the pineapple came in yesterday, and it was fresh. He will assure the patient that he took breakfast at the hospital cafe yesterday and no other person has complained about the pineapples. Jake will apply self-control when responding to the patient’s complaints and he will do so by speaking to the patient calmly. He will clarify that issue by calling the individual who served the patient with the pineapple in the presence of the patient. Further, he will bring other patients in neighboring rooms to affirm that the pineapple was fresh. Jake will try to examine the source of the patient’s emotions so as to calm her down. Once the two people have confirmed that the pineapple was fresh, Jake will tell the lady in a respectful manner that pineapple did not have a problem. He will apply passive resistance so as to pass his message in a respectful manner to the patient. The patient will be given another opportunity to give her say and if she remains adamant that the pineapple was rotten, he will just guarantee her that the future meals will be fresh because they have been fresh always. I predict that the patient will be remorseful for lying about the pineapple, and she will consider apologizing for causing a row at the hospital. Further, the patient will try to behave well in future because she has been busted for lying. However, there is a likelihood that the patient will not be contented, and she will dislike Jake for telling her the truth and this might strain the relationship between them.
